Research trial · Mississippi State University
In 2024, Mississippi State University rebuilt a research green with TifEagle ultradwarf bermudagrass and compared an 87:13 sand-to-CarbonizPN root zone with a standard 90:10 sand-to-Dakota peat mix. CarbonizPN plots established faster and held more water, organic matter, and microbial activity, pointing to shorter grow-ins and earlier playability.
Figures compare the CarbonizPN root zone with standard fertility (Treatment 1) to the 90:10 sand–Dakota peat control. Sprigged July 16, 2024; measured through October 2024.
Case study · Broken Sound Club
Shannon Easter, Director of Golf Maintenance at Broken Sound Club, walks through how biochar and carbon have improved the sustainability of the club’s courses, from DryJect applications to topdressing with a sand mix, during both maintenance and construction.
All Mirimichi Green products have been implemented in our program since May 2014 here at Broken Sound Club. The CarbonizPN-DJ we used for DryJect in May 2017 has shown instant results! The greens are holding their moisture and nutrients much longer. I back their product and give them all of my support!

“At our golf course in Central Illinois there are 80-year old, “push up” greens constructed of native soil. Some of them have high clay content and are surrounded by trees that compete with our bentgrass for nutrients and water. Some greens, in particular, have compacted, high-clay soils. One of the greens, we alleviated the compaction problem with core aerification Read more … (core harvest) followed by sweeping in CarbonizPN to fill the void in the aerification holes. These soils have improved in water infiltration and percolation and nutrient holding. This is evident by the turf color and health compared to the section of the green that did not get CarbonizPN applied. One of our greens with the clay and tree issues showed “straw brown” turf color in the spring. I thought we had lost grass as other greens were already greened up and growing healthy by this time. We mixed CarbonizPN in the sand topdressing and applied it post-core aerification at a rate of 30% CarbonizPN / 70% topdress sand. This particular green showed improved health in two weeks that lasted the season. I attributed it to the Mirimichi Green CarbonizPN application. We plan to use Mirimichi Green to address the compaction problem on additional greens in the future and using it for divot fill in.”
The products we use have increased plant health of turfgrass. We are very impressed with the response we have got from Mirimichi products throughout the growing season.
“We are very happy with the results. No disease pressure and nematodes are a thing of the past. All I can say is WOW!”

CarbonizPN for construction, topdressing, and aeration backfill; CarbonizPN-G for routine granular maintenance on tees, greens, and fairways; and ByoSpxtrum to add beneficial soil microbiology.
CarbonizPN enriches soil structure with biochar and compost, improving water retention, reducing the need for synthetic fertilizers, and promoting healthier root systems, which is critical for maintaining consistent turf quality on fairways and greens.
In a 2024 Mississippi State University trial, an 87:13 sand-to-CarbonizPN root zone reached 90% turf cover by late September versus 35% for a 90:10 sand–Dakota peat mix, with more organic matter, moisture, and root surface area. Talk to our team about a mix design for your project.
Yes. Application rates vary based on specific goals and turf conditions, but typically a light topdressing followed by watering ensures optimal integration without altering the playing surface. Download the golf application rates below or ask our team.
Yes. Our products are designed for easy integration into existing turf maintenance schedules and can be applied with minimal interruption to play.
Biochar provides a stable carbon source that supports long-term soil health by enhancing microbial activity, improving nutrient retention, and building a robust soil structure that lasts for years.
Yes. Mirimichi Green products are designed to complement conventional fertilization programs, often allowing for reduced synthetic input while maintaining or improving turf quality.
Our products support sustainable course management by reducing chemical usage, enhancing natural soil biology, and minimizing water consumption through improved soil moisture retention.
Courses can see savings over time from reduced fertilizer and water use, lower maintenance labor, and more resilient turf that needs fewer corrective treatments.
Apply CarbonizPN to high-traffic areas in advance to reduce compaction and improve overall resilience.
