Lookout Central Region – Jeff Averitt joins Mirimichi Green

Castle Hayne, NC, October 21, 2021 – Mirimichi Green – the award-winning, premier developer of next-generation biotechnology for soil amendments, bio-stimulants, liquid fertilizers, and pesticides – has named Jeff Averitt as the Regional Sales Manager for the U.S.’s central region.

He brings more than 20 years of experience in central region sales to Mirimichi Green, the company leading the charge in sustainability and effectiveness in the landscape industry.

A native of Lexington, Kentucky, Jeff grew up working on a vegetable farm with his brother and sister. His parents tasked him with selling vegetables from a stand at a young age, and Jeff learned early to create extra value for his customers by packaging vegetables together to increase sales. Then, when he was 12, Jeff’s mother started a landscaping business for him and his brother to run. Together, they built it up to serve more than 150 yards before selling it off to pay for his first year of college at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky.

While playing on the university soccer team, Jeff met a person who would become a long-term friend, Mirimichi salesman Tom Boyd. After college, Jeff found his calling in sales, working for various clients and products in the central region ranging from medical supplies to HVAC and more.

During COVID, Jeff took some time to reflect on what he wanted to do in life. He wanted a way to use his love of sales to sell something that made a difference. So Jeff searched for a product to sell he was genuinely proud of and for a company he respected and trusted. After considering solar, sustainable technologies, and other industries, Jeff found Mirimichi Green, thanks to his old college buddy Tom.

Jeff’s excited to get to know everyone out in the field, find ways to help landscape professionals improve their profits, and learn as much agronomy as he can. He hopes that when he walks into a branch location, you won’t just see a salesperson walking in, but someone with equal knowledge and passion about soil health.

Jeff lives on a small farm in Lexington with his wife and dog. When he’s not exploring the land with his dog, Jeff enjoys going to festivals and concerts in the region and spends any time he can with his son and daughter.

The Mirimichi Green team expects the updated mixture will provide the results that all professionals desire for their turf and plants.

Putting liquid carbon into all of the liquid fertilizers and bio-stimulants was the next step in Mirimichi Green’s efforts to create and develop a Carbon Building Program for their end users. “Carbon is key. Getting carbon back into the soil will improve overall soil health. We have seen the success of our carbon products over the years and wanted to extend that to the rest of our product line. We made this decision because we wanted all of our customers to benefit from putting carbon back into the soil,” said Web Cowden, COO of Mirimichi Green.

Each year, the NCMEP recognizes leadership in the areas of workforce development, continuous improvement, sustainability and other areas through a number of awards that are given during an annual manufacturing conference.

The manufacturing conference referred to as mfgCON, is North Carolina’s premier conference for manufacturing and innovation, powered by Business North Carolina magazine and the North Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership. On September 20, 2017, manufacturers from across North Carolina met at the 2017 Manufacturing Conference in Winston-Salem at the Benton Convention Center to share best practices, practical advice, and helpful tips for creating a safer, more efficient and more profitable manufacturing sector.

One of the keynote speakers at the event, Roy Cooper, the NC Governor, addressed the audience about innovation, growth, and education. The state awards program recognized manufacturers for their commitment to the North Carolina manufacturing sector, as proven by outstanding performance. At the 2017 NCMEP manufacturing conference, Mirimichi Green received the 2017 NCMEP Leadership Award in Sustainable Manufacturing.

The North Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership said in their press release, “When one thinks of “sustainability,” golf courses are not the first thing that comes to mind. But when Memphis’ Mirimichi golf course was redesigned in 2009, its new owner was determined to make it both public and green; the course was redesigned to feature native landscapes and offer wildlife habitat connectivity and environmental education. It was also the first golf course to receive Audubon Classic Sanctuary Certification. After Mirimichi’s success, Mirimichi Green was formed in 2011 near Wilmington, NC to manufacture, sell and distribute an entire product line of sustainable soil and turf enhancers and weed and plant control products. Mirimichi Green’s products are designed to offer a bridge to more responsible landscaping methods, and to help consumers set reasonable goals for their own sustainable practices.”

Shannon Easter To Speak At 2017 Distinguished Ideas Summit

Boca West Country Club and The Polo Club of Boca Raton are hosting the 2017 Distinguished Ideas Summit for the General Managers, Board Members and Leadership Staff of currently-awarded Distinguished Clubs on October 1st, 2017.

Boardroom Magazine developed the Distinguished Clubs award program to help vitalize and preserve the institution of private clubs by fostering a ceaseless drive to ever improve the “Member Experience” provided by private clubs throughout the world. A club will become nominated and certain factors about the clubs are evaluated in order to determine award winners.

Pre-selected speakers for the Distinguished Ideas Summit will discuss how they created a great member experience at their own clubs by implementing unique ideas and strategies. Shannon Easter, Director of Golf Maintenance and Environmental Consultant at Broken Sound Golf Club, is scheduled to speak about how incorporating Mirimichi Green products helped lead to the recognition the club has received for its sustainable efforts.

Shannon Easter will specifically detail how he is using CarbonizPN Soil Enhancer to develop a carbon filter in the soil profile. “Building a true carbon filter often brings up a lot of questions. It is no different than the idea of using a carbon filter to filter a house or air-conditioning unit. Why wouldn’t you do the same thing in the soil profile? Plus, it has a positive impact on the environment – it decreases our water usage, decreases the electricity I use for my pump houses, increases my fertility, keeps the plant healthier and we are using fewer fungicides,” said Easter.

Easter was the guest speaker on Turf’s Up Radio on Saturday, August 27th, 2017. He revealed that his course is “coming in under budget and opening 8 weeks early” due to hard work and success with Mirimichi Green’s CarbonizPN and liquid fertilizers. “We are able to profit about half a million dollars by spending around 10% more on the initial planting of the golf course,” said Shannon. He is able to cut down his maintenance, irrigation and avoid paying for members to play elsewhere. Shannon Easter’s newly renovated course, The Club Course, will be opening in November 2017, 2 months before the originally scheduled date of January 1st, 2018. Click here to listen to the full podcast.

Easter will also speak about Broken Sound Club’s program that focuses on water conservation, water quality, energy conservation, pollution prevention, waste management, wildlife habitat conservation and enhancement, as well as, their efforts to educate the community on sustainable practices.

Be sure to check back in for an update after the 2017 Distinguished Clubs Ideas Summit for more details on Shannon Easter’s speech.

Mirimichi Green Announces Inaugural Sustainable Program Member Award

Castle Hayne, NC – January 23, 2017 – Mirimichi Green has awarded Broken Sound Club, in Boca Raton, Florida, with the first Mirimichi Green Sustainable Program Member Award. Broken Sound Club has taken a lead in the golf industry to make every step of their agronomic program sustainable.

The Old Course at Broken Sound has been the home to the PGA Champions Tour Allianz Championship since 2007. The original Broken Sound Club, now affectionately known as the “Old Course”, was founded in 1978 and designed by Joe Lee. Gene Bates completed a redesign of the Old Course in January 2004, then again in the summer of 2014. The redesign in 2014 began due to long-term issues, but it gave Broken Sound Club the chance to set goals to be more environmentally responsible and reduce their environmental footprint.

Mirimichi Green first noticed Broken Sound Club’s sustainable efforts in March of 2014 and was impressed by the club’s mindfulness of their community and the surrounding environment. After meeting with Shannon Easter, the Director of Golf Maintenance, to discuss the benefits of Mirimichi Green’s sustainable products and how it could benefit their program for The Old Course, it was clear that the two companies were a perfect fit. The products and the soil were tested and a superior golf maintenance program was formed.

“We are seeing results from the use of Mirimichi Green’s CarbonizPN Soil Enhancer and liquid fertilizers in enormous proportions with reduced fertility rates, longer nutrient retention, and less nematode activity. Mirimichi Green’s product is now part of our annual agronomic program here at the Broken Sound Club,” said Easter.

Broken Sound Club set their sustainable goals and practices them rigorously. Their focus is on integrated pest management, proper chemical and fertilizer practices, environmentally friendly landscaping, water conservation, water quality, energy conservation, pollution prevention, waste management, wildlife habitat conservation and enhancement, and the list goes on.

Broken Sound Club didn’t stop with just improving their own program, but they encourage and educate others to do the same. Shannon Easter said, “Because golf courses have such a negative perception with the general public, we constantly reinforce our professionalism, our commitment to the environment, and our dedication to precise and effective natural resource and integrated pest management. During the season, I instruct a monthly membership educational program. The topics are designed to share our environmental programs with the membership in hopes that it will inspire them to participate.”

Russ Britton, CEO of Mirimichi Green, said, “We would like to thank Broken Sound Club for including Mirimichi Green products in their efforts. Singapore Open 2017 Guest Speaker

Castle Hayne, NC – December 19th, 2016 – Sentosa Golf Club has invited Mirimichi Green’s CEO, Russ Britton, to be the guest speaker at the Singapore Open on January 19-22, 2017. After incorporating Mirimichi Green products into their golf course maintenance program in 2016, Sentosa Golf Club saw a rapid change in the health of their greens, tees, and fairways.

Mirimichi Green’s business had remained in the U.S. and in the Bahamas, but it’s success soon gave the young company the opportunity to move up to an international scale. Sentosa Golf Club is Mirimichi Green’s first international project.

Mirimichi Green would like to thank Shannon Easter for customizing a program for Sentosa Golf Club, Wendell Trading Company for international distribution, and Sentosa Golf Club for the invitation to speak. A special thanks to the talented people from the North Carolina Economic Development Partnership (EDPNC), who have been instrumental in guiding the growth and momentum of Mirimichi Green at home and abroad.

While visiting at the Singapore Open, Russ plans to spread the story of how Mirimichi Green started and how the Carbon Building Program can truly benefit not only golf courses but any industry. Russ Britton said, “North Carolina is a state with a tremendous amount of natural resources and those resources are playing a vital role in creating new jobs for our home state and helping us compete on the world stage, in bio-agriculture. It is comforting to know we have the support of our home state and are welcomed to do business abroad.”

Now that the international doors have opened for Mirimichi Green, they look forward to the unique opportunities that may arise. Click here for more information about Mirimichi Green’s international launch at Sentosa Golf Club.

Mirimichi Green Tackles College Stadium

Castle Hayne, NC – November 17th, 2016 – In May of 2016 Mirimichi Green tackled one of the most well-known college football stadiums in North Carolina. The University of North Carolina’s Kenan Memorial Stadium applied Mirimichi Green’s CarbonizPN Soil Enhancer and Nutri-Release before laying down new sod in order to get the field ready for preseason summer training, six home games, and other athletic activities.

The University of North Carolina used Nutri-Release at a rate of 7oz/M and CarbonizPN Soil Enhancer at a rate of 50lbs/M. The stadium’s turf is lush, green and durable and has withstood a heavy playing season. After seeing the rapid and deep root growth the sod formed from using the products, UNC began to incorporate the products into other projects.

The Director of Athletic Grounds and Turf Management at the University of North Carolina, Casey Carrick, said “We first used the CarbonizPN Soil Enhancer and Nutri-Release last year on Kenan Stadium when we re-sodded the entire field. Being a sand-based field, we felt it held nutrients much better, and the overall quality of the field has been better than years past. Since then, we have used the soil enhancer under sod on 3 other fields and will continue to do so on future sod installs. We currently spray Nutri-Release at least once a month during our growing season when we are applying foliar fertilizers. So far we’ve had great results with Mirimichi Green products and plan to continue using them as a regular part of our installs and fertility program.”

Thanks to the help of Ewing Irrigation’s Sports Field team, one of Mirimichi Green’s distributors, this athletic field renovation led Mirimichi Green to later work on other well-known sports fields such as Duke University’s Wallace Wade Stadium and the Dallas Cowboys new practice facility.

Mirimichi Green’s turf and soil products have been developed to meet the multifaceted needs of sports field maintenance. All while providing quicker post play recovery, reduced irrigation requirements and a long lasting home for beneficial microbial activity.
